With three months to go until the movie starts production in January, many fans wondered when we might get news about who is being looked at for the new movie premiering January 13, 2017, looking to be filmed in Vancouver between January and April 2016. Recently, the character descriptions for the Rangers were released. Now, from Variety, we have a glimpse at who is being looked at.
For Zack, the Black Ranger:
Sources say Daniel Zovatto (“It Follows”), Ross Butler (“Chasing Life”) and Brian “Sene” Marc are among those testing for Zack (aka the Black Ranger)
For Jason, the Red Ranger:
KJ Apa (“Shortland Street”), Austin Butler (“The Shannara Chronicles”) and Mitchell Hope (“The Descendants”) are testing for Jason (aka the Red Ranger).
For Kimberly, the Pink Ranger:
Sources also say Naomi Scott (“The Martian”) and newcomer Stephanie Scott are up for the role Kimberley (aka the Pink Ranger).
Annasophia Robb is also testing for Kimberly
Rumors and speculation had been going around with the idea that the casting directors would be looking at “unkown” actors to fill these roles. Looks like this is true.
Insiders say the studio is looking for fresh faces to fill out the team and will probably look for a big name to play the antagonist for the films, though no offers have been given out for that part yet.
Stay tuned for more information.
