After rumors and questions and overall wonderment over whether or not Power Rangers is returning to New Zealand, I had posted two blog posts with some findings of evidence of the show returning to the fall. (Blog Post 1, Blog Post 2). On the coattails of Power Morphicon’s cast announcement, we have official confirmation that Power Rangers Dino Charge and Power Rangers Dino Supercharge will indeed be returning to New Zealand to film this fall. You can read the official press release below.
HONG KONG – New Zealand actor James Davies will co-star in “Power Rangers Dino Charge,” as the Saban Brands “Power Rangers” boys TV show is confirmed to return to the country for filming of the latest series.
Davies will be part of the group of ordinary teens who morph into superheroes and save the world from evil.
Production begins later this year in Auckland. It will be the 10th time that the iconic series has used New Zealand locations and facilities.
“The new season is particularly important as it is the first time that the production will formally engage [local] directing and writing interns to work alongside the experienced team,” said Dave Gibson, chief executive of funding body, the New Zealand Film Commission. “Having up-and-coming New Zealand talent actively participating in the creative process is something we value highly and forms part of a long-term strategy to develop New Zealand expertise, with an eye to future development of New Zealand IP.”
The line-up for the new season was announced on Saturday at Power Morphicon, a bi-annual fan-run Power Rangers convention in California. The New Zealand deals were announced by the NZFC and location attraction organization Film New Zealand.
The new “Power Rangers” season will be eligible for the New Zealand Screen Production Grant and meet criteria for bringing significant economic benefits to New Zealand. “Power Rangers Dino Charge” is being executive produced by Haim Saban and Judd Lynn, and produced by New Zealander Sally Campbell and Saban Brands’ Brian Casentini.
